Getting yourself and your gear ready!

Gear
It's time to look at your gear! Make sure your hardware is in good repair, your gear is still waterproof, and that your bag is still in working order. With ongoing supply chain issues, it is hard to come by gear and equipment last minute, so some foresight is required. If you need a new piece of equipment, make sure you get on that now.
Safety equipment
The most important part. It's time to take a look at your transceiver.
-
Make sure you didn't leave your batteries in it all summer.
-
Bring it to a local service centre to have it checked by the professionals for the upcoming season.
-
Take your probe out and make sure it's in good working order.
Backcountry Rentals
If you need any backcountry rentals, please visit Moon Cycle in person or online. Visit the DISCOUNTS section for your discount codes.

*If your gear does not show up from a flight, call GPG immediately, and we will do our best to reserve you replacement equipment from Moon Cycle prior to the trip departure.
Fitness
If you didn't have an active summer, it's time to face your demons. Get jogging, spin biking, and doing some form of strength routine to get you fit for the trip.
We want you to get the most out of the terrain out there and we all know how brutal it is to be sucking wind at the back of a group. However, this is easy to avoid if we start now!
Group Size
You can expect to ski as a big group on our first and sometimes second day. As we figure out group dynamics, ability levels and expectations, we try to split utilizing both ACMG guides to cater to the group's needs and wants on a more personalized basis.
Towels
Towels are not provided. We suggest lightweight, packable towels that can be found at your local camping store.
Clothing
Plan for it to be quite cold when we are not out riding. Refer to the packing list for particulars and suggestions. Remember, you get discounts on top brands as a GPG customer, should you need to level up your camp lunge ware.
Thirst - Quenchers
We do not provide alcohol on these trips. Tea, coffee and hot water will be available every day.
Food
We provide fresh ingredients as part of a healthy and wholesome menu to keep you fuelled each day. Please make sure you have completed your client intake form. We use this to ensure we can cater to all dietary requirements. If anything changes before the trip, reach out any time.
Navigation
We suggest using Gaia for your mapping needs while on trips with GPG.
Helicopter packing
Please pack ready for loading the helicopter in the following fashion:
-
Helmet, goggles, boots, ski clothing and warm hut clothing on your person
-
A day pack packed with your camp boots attached.
-
A duffel bag with your personal items must not exceed the size of a Medium North Face Duffel.
-
Sleeping bags in a waterproof stuff sack, preferably labelled with your name.
-
Skis and splitboards with tech bindings, bundled with poles and tied with heli straps
-
Split board with soft boot bindings in ride mode, with the bindings taken off and strapped together with the large strap on the binding.

Note: If you come unprepared to load the helicopter with the above setup up you will need to repack in the parking lot.
Living at Basecamp

Sleeping
Tents are North Face VE 25s or similar. They are shared in groups of 2. GPG does not supply sleeping equipment other than your tent. Refer to the packing list below for particulars.
Drying your gear
We will be using a canvass tent that will be heated by a wood stove to dry our gear. This tent will also serve as our living and dining area.
Towels
Towels are not provided. We suggest lightweight, packable towels that can be found at your local camping store.
Clothing
Plan for it to be quite cold when we are not out riding. Refer to the packing list for particulars and suggestions. Remember, you get discounts on top brands as a GPG customer, should you need to level up your camp lounge ware.
Shower
We do not have a shower or washing facilities for this trip. Folks often bring kids wet-wipes to help maintain a level of cleanliness.
Electricity
We will have limited access to power for personal items on these trips, please plan for your own device management.
Wi-Fi
We will have limited access to Startlink with a data cap on these trips. Should the group max out the data cap, the resulting charges will be passed back to the clients.
Food
Food will be cooked by our camp chef, they will be using a North Face 2-Meter Dome tent. This is mostly off limits to clients other than helping with fetching water and helping with dishes.
We provide fresh ingredients as part of a healthy and wholesome menu to keep you fuelled each day. Please make sure you have completed your client intake form. We use this to ensure we can cater to all dietary requirements. If anything changes before the trip, reach out any time. We provide lunch sandwiches but not individual snacks. Please bring these with you.
Toilets & Hygiene
All bascamp trips utilize very rustic toilet solutions,

Our backcountry toilet is rudimentary but there is a method to the madness. No peeing in the toilet. Solid waste only so pee right before at your favourite pee tree.

Please use designated pee trees to avoid a messy camp site. After your business, burn the toilet paper and dispense a small scoop of “poop powder” to add enzymes and gel any liquids.

Clean hands are incredibly important. We recommend short nails and scrubbing hands with snow frequently and using provided hand sanitizer. We will have warm hand washing stations periodically.
Emergencies
In case of an emergency, the GPG staff will contact Search and Rescue to conduct the rescue. If S&R are not required, the client is responsible for helicopter fees for evacuations related to nonemergency evacuations.
We use a mixture of consumer radios and VHF radios; if you have either, please bring them.
Tent Usage
We cherish our tents and hope you will too! When you care for something, you treat it kindly. Our tents are valuable equipment, so please handle them with care by following these guidelines:

-
Avoid using metal shovels or sharp objects to clean tents. Even a light touch can tear taut fabric. Use the provided small camp broom for cleaning.
-
Handle zippers gently. Keep them fully closed when not in use and fully open when entering the tent.
-
Watch your boot buckles when entering to prevent snagging, which can cause significant damage.
-
Keep flames, stoves, hot metal objects, and cooking equipment well away from the tent fabric.
-
When setting up tents, fully assemble the poles to avoid snapping under strain.
