Disclaimer

These trips are organized based on group needs/ demands. This type of trip will test your mental and physical fitness should you not be well versed in back country winter camping and travel. Please be sure this is the trip for you before going any further.

Gear

It's time to look at your gear! Make sure your hardware is in good repair, your gear is still waterproof, and that your bag is still in working order. With ongoing supply chain issues, it is hard to come by gear and equipment these days so some foresight is required. If you need a new piece of equipment make sure you get on that now.

Safety equipment

The most important part. It's time to take a look at your transceiver.

  • Make sure you didn't leave your batteries in it all summer.

  • Bring it to a local service centre to have it checked by the professionals for the upcoming season.

  • Take your probe out and make sure it's in good working order.

  • We have Rocky Talkie Radios for you to use, should you want to bring your own please let your guide know ahead of time you are doing so.

Backcountry Rentals

If you need any backcountry rentals please visit Selkirk Ski and Bike .

*If your gear does not show up from a flight, call GPG immediately and we will do our best to reserve you replacement equipment from Higher Ground Sports prior to the trip departure.

Fitness

If you didn't have an active summer, it's time to face your demons. Get jogging, spin biking, and doing some form of strength routine to get you fit for the trip.

We want you to get the most out of the terrain out there and we all know how brutal it is to be sucking wind at the back of a group. However, this is easy to avoid if we start now!

Group Size

We take a maximum of four people on these adventures, unless previously discussed with GPG.

Sleeping

You have the option to rent North Face VE 25 tents from GPG, should you not have your own camping equipment.

You are responsible for your sleeping set up on these trips

Clothing

You are going to be out in the elements for the entirety of this adventure, pay close attention to the packing list.

Showers and toilets

There will be no access to any showers or bathrooms on this adventure.

Electricity

We all rely heavily on devices. Please have sufficient energy storage solutions to keep yours powered up on this trip.

Connectivity

Your guide will have a satellite communicators. All iPhone 14 or newer now have access to satellite messaging also, make sure those you wish to stay in touch with have a new enough phone to receive these messages should this be your method of communication. Your guide will have regular communication with GPG staff throughout your adventure.

Food

We rely on dehydrated food and simple meals for these adventures. Food costs will be over and above the cost of your guiding fee's. It is not expected but always nice to include your guide in planning for breakfast and dinners. Should you need it, we can organize food and an extra cost, should capacity allow.

Navigation

Please have your navigation method of choice in good repair and set up for the reigon you are going to. You are being guided, however it is expected that you also have an idea of where you are should that information become necessary.

Emergencies

In case of an emergency, your guide, or the GPG office will contact Search and Rescue to conduct the rescue. If you require a non-emergent transfer out of the field, this will need to be covered by the client.

We use a mixture of consumer radios and VHF radios, if you have either please bring them.
